Digital Height Gauge Fine Adjuster

I recently bought a very cheap digital height gauge. I have to say, it’s not terribly good, but I thought I’d check that I’d use one regularly before investing in a better quality unit. One thing that struck me immediately was the lack of any means to make a fine adjustment of the height, which would make it pretty difficult to do any fine marking out.

So…

I’ve quickly made up a fine adjustment addon in Autodesk Fusion 360. Printed in PLA on my Creality CR10S in PLA took around 2.5 hours in total.

If you want to make one, the files are on Thingiverse

Notes:

On my unit, the original lock screw is M3, which I’ve reused to connect the adjuster to the main body. I’ve used M4 threaded rod for the adjuster, and there is an M4 threaded insert in the knob to match. The lock screw on the adjuster is also M3 with an M3 threaded insert on the adjuster body. I’ve included the Fusion file so you can modify it to take captive nuts if you don’t have threaded insert.

I think I can probably reduce the overall height of the adjuster, so I don’t lose quite so much of the working height of the gauge.
